Vice Mayor Mannix Dalipe yesterday urged Mayor Celso to respect the decision of the barangay chairmen. This following the withdrawal of support by ten District 1 barangay chairmen on the creation of the third district.

The withdrawal of support by the barangay leaders, who were summoned to City Hall on Monday morning, was allegedly caused by intense pressure exerted by Mayor Celso on some barangay chairmen. In an interview, Dalipe called on to respect the opinion of the barangay officials because they have consulted their respective constituents with regards to the creation of an additional legislative district in the city.He also urged the chief executive to stop fooling and confusing the people on the issue saying the proposed creation of an additional district has no relation at all with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA-AD) on Ancestral Domain or the Bangsamoro Juridical Entity (BJE). “The Mayor is trying to destroy the names of those who are supportive of the 3rd district by falsely claiming that when we will have a 3rd district, the BJE will already be implemented. This kind of reasoning is a sign of desperation.” Dalipe said. The vice mayor said it was clear that the barangay leaders were under duress because of the mayor’s pressure, thus the retraction from Congresswoman Isabelle “Beng” Climaco’s House Bill 6259 seeking the creation of a third district.“I know how difficult it was for the ten barangay chairmen to retract what they believe is for the good of their constituents and progress of City.” Dalipe emphasized. The vice mayor appealed to not to treat the barangay leaders as children.
