ZCMC thanks Fabian for increase in bed capacity of hospital

Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) officials and personnel the other day expressed gratitude to Congressman Erbie Fabian for his concern in increasing the bed capacity of the medical facility from 250 to 500.
In an interview, ZCMC press relation officer (PIO) Dr. Jejunee Rivera, however said that the hospital could only accommodate up to 350 beds increase and is not ready for the 500 bed capacity.

â??We can increase to 500 bed capacity but our medical services to the patients would greatly be hampered because of the space. Many of the rooms will be filled up with beds and there is little space left for our doctors and nurse to move around freely,â? Rivera stressed.It would be recalled that Fabian has already filed the bill in the House of Representatives increasing the bed capacity of the ZCMC from 250 to 500 and seeking additional funding for personnel and medical equipment.The PIO asked Fabian to lobby for the immediate increase of the hospitalâ??s bed capacity to 350.The bill is now on second reading in Congress.Rivera boasted the hospitalâ??s modernization plan to include the construction of the new psychiatric ward amounting to P5.5 million. He said that funds for the construction of the project came from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Fabian.According to Rivera, the board has already approved in principle for the hospital to construct an oxygen plant.â??If we will have that oxygen plant in operation, the ZCMC will be making roughly P4 million annually in profit,â? Rivera pointed out.He said that the other modernization plan include the purchase of cobalt treatment machine which is going to be the first in Mindanao and the establishment of a cancer center inside the hospitalâ??s compound.The new birthing Home is also under construction and nearing completion that will cater to all uncomplicated and normal pregnant women about to give birth the natural way.He said that ZCMC has other state of the art equipment which was included in the $9.1 million Spanish loan.â??The ZCMC is now moving to its first millennium. On September 1, the hospital will celebrate its 90th years of existence. We are happy to serve all our patients from all over Western Mindanao,â? Rivera said. (Nonong Santiago)
