Pasonanca Climaco Park to undergo rehab – Beng

The Cesar C. Freedom Park — a memorial park dedicated to ’s hero the late Mayor Cesar Cortez Climaco will undergo rehabilitation this year after long years of untiring lobbying by 1st District Congresswoman Maria Isabelle G. Climaco.

This 54-hectare area will undergo periodic rehabilitation beginning this year with the Phase 1 of the project covering the memorial shrine where Mayor Climacoâ??s burial site is located. Funded by the national government through the initiative of Senator Edgardo Angara upon the lobbying and request of Cong. Climaco, this project will cost P50 million and shall be implemented in close coordination with the local government of Zamboanga City.â??This year we are going to commemorate the 25th Death Anniversary of Uncle Cesar.  We are very grateful for the support we have gained from the local and national government, especially the support of Senator Edgardo Angara to have the Climaco Park rehabilitated. This is our way of reliving and revitalizing the spirit of heroism and leadership that Uncle Cesar left Zamboanga City with and will once again be fostered to our young people today,â? Cong. Climaco said.Architect Rene Luis Mata, a renowned heritage architect who has led several architecture restorations such as the Intramuros Park, will lead the rehabilitation of the Cesar C. Climaco Park.â??Our hope is to keep important parts of Zamboangaâ??s history intact which is uniquely ours. This is one way of keeping history alive. Together with our local officials, we see this rehabilitation as a way of preserving a legacy for our youth. This will also be a good opportunity for the people in Barangay to likewise make the place a tourist destination,â? Cong. Climaco added.Ground breaking ceremony of the said project is set on November 14, 2009, exactly on the 25th Death Anniversary of Mayor Cesar C. Climaco.
